Last updated: 14.6.2025

The Saarland supports agricultural enterprises through agricultural investment promotion for investments in long-term assets. The program, co-financed by GAK and EAFRD, aims to improve consumer, animal, environmental, and climate protection, and strengthens economic power in rural areas.

Who is Funded

The program is aimed at agricultural enterprises in Saarland, including small and medium-sized enterprises, young farmers, start-ups, and cooperatives. The goal is to strengthen economic power and secure jobs in rural areas, considering consumer, animal, environmental, and climate protection.

What is Funded

Investments in long-term assets that serve the production, processing, or direct marketing of agricultural products and contribute to consumer, animal, environmental, and climate protection are funded. Diversification measures to create additional sources of income are also eligible.

Type and Scope of Funding

The program provides grants for eligible investments, with a maximum funding amount of up to 40% of expenses or €249,000 per application. The minimum investment volume is €30,000, and the maximum eligible total investment volume is €3 million. Additional grants are available for young farmers and cooperatives.

Conditions and Requirements

Applicants must meet various legal and economic requirements, including adherence to income limits (prosperity limit) and proof of professional qualifications and economic viability of the project. EU and national regulations as well as specific Saarland guidelines apply.

Application Procedure

The application procedure is multi-stage and requires timely submission of a complete application with all necessary documents to the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. Project selection is based on a scoring system and ranking.

The Agricultural Investment Promotion is based on the "Guideline for the Granting of Subsidies to Agricultural Enterprises in Saarland (Agricultural Investment Promotion and Diversification) FRL-AFP/FID" from January 2, 2019, and is supplemented and specified by EU regulations, the GAK Act, as well as national and Saarland budgetary ordinances and administrative regulations.
