Alpha+ Better Reading and Writing

The "ALPHA+ better reading and writing" funding program is aimed at legal entities under public and private law in Bavaria that offer courses to improve the reading and writing skills of low-literacy individuals. The goal is the comprehensive social and professional participation of course participants.

Literacy courses are funded for individuals with significant deficits in reading and writing skills who do not exceed Alpha-Level 3. The courses must have a pedagogically sound concept and can also include socio-pedagogical support and childcare.

The program provides grants in the form of project funding with co-financing. The grant amounts to a maximum of 90 percent of the eligible expenses. The course duration is set at 60 to 200 teaching units.

To receive funding, applicants must submit a pedagogically sound project concept, employ qualified teaching staff, and achieve a minimum number of three participants on the third day of instruction. Specific distinctions from other funding programs and documentation requirements also apply.

The application procedure requires the timely submission of a project concept and qualification certificates of the teaching staff to the Government of Lower Bavaria. Approval is granted after examination of the documents. A statement of use must be submitted after project completion.

Funding is based on the funding guidelines of the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture "ALPHA+ better reading and writing" and the general budgetary regulations. These guidelines regulate the framework conditions and objectives of the program.
