Promotion of Animal Breeding (RL TZ/2023)

Last updated: 14.6.2025
Grant

The Free State of Saxony supports projects for the breeding improvement of farm animals as well as the preservation and further development of fancy rabbit and poultry breeding. The program contributes to securing the genetic quality and diversity of animal populations while promoting the cultural heritage of breeding associations. Eligible applicants can receive a subsidy for various measures under certain conditions.

Who is Funded

This funding program targets various stakeholders in the Free State of Saxony who are committed to improving and preserving animal breeding. This includes recognized breeding organizations, small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises, and, in specific cases, natural persons or private legal entities and state associations of fancy rabbit and poultry breeders. The measures must be implemented at locations in Saxony and meet specific criteria.

What is Funded

The funding program supports a variety of measures in animal breeding, from herdbook keeping and performance testing to the preservation of rare farm animal breeds and the promotion of fancy rabbit and poultry breeding. It covers directly attributable expenses but excludes certain cost categories.

Type and Scope of Funding

The funding program provides grants in the form of fixed-amount or percentage-based funding, the amount of which varies depending on the specific measure and scope. A de minimis threshold of 2,500 Euros generally applies, with exceptions for certain conservation measures.

Conditions and Requirements

For funding, applicants and projects must meet specific legal, administrative, and content-related conditions. This includes compliance with EU aid rules, precise requirements for animal husbandry and documentation, as well as for the onward transfer of funds and proof of use. Special regulations apply to consortia and in cases of force majeure.

Application Procedure

The application procedure for animal breeding funding is carried out through the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (LfULG) according to fixed annual deadlines. The decision on granting the subsidy is at the discretion of the approving authority, and there is no legal entitlement to funding. A detailed proof of use must be submitted after the completion of the measures.

The promotion of animal breeding in Saxony is based on the Animal Breeding Funding Guideline (FRL TZ/2023) of the Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture. This guideline is in line with the Saxon Budget Code, the GAK Act, the Saxon Administrative Procedure Act, and specific EU regulations for aid in the agricultural and forestry sector.
