Grants in the Field of Animal Welfare

This funding program targets non-profit animal welfare organizations based in the Free State of Saxony. The goal is to improve the living conditions of pets and, in individual cases, farm animals through targeted measures for admission, housing, and care.

The funding program supports a variety of animal welfare measures, including both investment projects to improve the infrastructure of animal shelters and other measures related to the daily operation and care of animals. From creating new animal housing spaces to neutering cats, various aspects of animal welfare are covered.

Grants are provided as subsidies in the form of project funding. The amount of funding varies depending on the type of measure, with investment measures covering up to 90 percent of eligible costs and other measures having staggered funding rates.

To receive funding, certain legal, administrative, and operational requirements must be met. These include the exclusive execution of measures in Saxony, the suitability of investments to improve animal welfare, and compliance with relevant animal protection laws. There is no legal right to the grant, as approval is at the discretion of the Saxony State Directorate.

The application process involves the written submission of specific forms to the Saxony State Directorate. There are different application deadlines for investment and other measures, and approval is at the discretion of the authority.

The funding is based on the Directive of the Saxon State Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Cohesion on the Granting of Subsidies in the Field of Animal Welfare (FRL Tierschutz) of July 14, 2022. In addition, the budgetary provisions of the Free State of Saxony and relevant animal welfare laws and ordinances apply.
