The State of Schleswig-Holstein supports projects for area revitalization and contaminated site remediation within the framework of the State Economic Program 2021–2027 (LPW 2021). The goal is to transform areas suspected of being contaminated, sealed, or underutilized into ecologically valuable sites. Investigation, planning, and remediation measures to eliminate environmental hazards are eligible for funding.

Who is funded

The State Economic Program 2021–2027 (LPW 2021) targets public territorial corporations in Schleswig-Holstein. The goal is to promote projects for area revitalization and contaminated site remediation to create ecologically valuable areas and eliminate environmental hazards. The focus is on improving biodiversity and climate protection in urban areas.

What is funded

Projects for area revitalization are funded, especially the preparation for transforming areas suspected of being contaminated, sealed, or underutilized into ecologically valuable sites. This also includes necessary contaminated site remediation measures to eliminate or reduce environmental hazards in soil and groundwater during the restoration of these areas.

Type and Scope of Funding

Funding is provided as a tied, non-repayable grant in the form of co-financing. The grant can amount to up to 60 percent of the eligible expenses. The eligible expenses must reach at least 200,000 Euros.

Conditions and Requirements

Strict conditions apply to funding, including adherence to the selection and funding principles of the State Economic Program (AFG LPW 2021). The project must contribute to ecological upgrading, improved biodiversity, and climate adaptation/protection, and reduce pollutant levels. In addition, detailed expert reports and concepts must be submitted.

Application Procedure

The application process is digital via the state's service portal to Investitionsbank Schleswig-Holstein (IB.SH). Applications can be submitted continuously, with the granting authority also able to issue calls for proposals on specific deadlines in coordination with MEKUN. The evaluation of eligibility for funding is based on specific technical selection criteria.

The funding program is based on the "Guideline of the State of Schleswig-Holstein for the Granting of Subsidies for the Promotion of Projects for Area Revitalization and Contaminated Site Remediation" and is part of the State Economic Program 2021–2027. It is also subject to various state and EU legal provisions.
