Sustainable Management and Restoration of Ukrainian Forests
The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) promotes the restoration and sustainable management of Ukrainian forests. The program supports bilateral research cooperation and knowledge exchange to make Ukraine's war-severely affected forestry sector more resilient and strengthen ecological functions. It aims to develop innovative solutions and transfer expertise.
Who is Funded
This BMEL funding program is aimed at German universities, research institutes, companies, associations, foundations, and forestry associations that wish to contribute to the sustainable restoration and management of Ukrainian forests in cooperation with Ukrainian partners. The goal is to revitalize forest ecosystems affected by the war and strengthen knowledge exchange in the forestry sector.
What is Funded
Both forestry research projects and measures for knowledge exchange and transfer of expertise focusing on sustainable forest management and the restoration of Ukrainian forests are funded. Support covers various thematic areas, from ecological aspects to digitalization.
Type and Extent of Funding
The program grants subsidies for eligible projects. The amount of funding varies depending on the type of project, with research projects being able to receive up to 100% of the costs. There are specific flat rates for training and information trips.
Conditions and Requirements
The funding is tied to various conditions, including the requirement for the applicant to have a business establishment in Germany and the mandatory involvement of Ukrainian partners. In addition, certain state aid provisions must be observed.
Application Procedure
The application procedure is either one- or two-stage, depending on the funding priority. Project outlines and funding applications can be submitted twice a year. Submissions are made electronically via easy-Online and additionally by post.
Legal Basis
The funding is based on the Guideline for the Promotion of Bilateral Research Cooperation and Knowledge Exchange for International Sustainable Forest Management. The General Administrative Regulations on the Federal Budget Code and EU state aid provisions are also relevant.
