Vocational Orientation for Students by Municipal Authorities in the Free State of Saxony (SMK FRL BO kGKS)

This funding program is explicitly aimed at municipal authorities in the Free State of Saxony, namely districts and independent cities. The goal is to improve vocational orientation for students and to strengthen regional economic locations through measures to secure skilled labor.

The funding program supports four specific areas in vocational orientation for students: Regional Coordination Offices, the interactive project "komm auf Tour", the nationwide initiative "SCHAU REIN! Week of Open Companies Saxony", and the work of coordinators for cooperation between general education and vocational schools. Funding aims at the planning, implementation, and support of these initiatives, with direct student work in coordination offices being excluded.

Funding is provided as a grant, primarily within the framework of project funding. The type of financing varies depending on the funding object between co-financing and fixed-amount financing. The maximum funding amount and the funding rate are specifically defined for each of the four funding objects, with a higher funding rate potentially being granted if the recipient's budget situation is critical.

To receive funding, districts and independent cities in the Free State of Saxony must meet specific requirements. These include ensuring the subsidiarity of the funded measures to municipal statutory duties and adhering to detailed qualification requirements for the personnel deployed. Furthermore, there are clear guidelines for public communication of the funding source.

Applications must be submitted to Sächsische Aufbaubank – Förderbank – (SAB). Application deadlines vary depending on the funding object, with most requiring submission by November 1st of the year preceding the implementation year. The disbursement of the grant occurs either as part of the regular disbursement procedure, as partial payments, or as a one-time payment upon request, depending on the funding object.

The funding program is legitimized by the "Guideline of the Saxon State Ministry of Education for the Promotion of Vocational Orientation for Students by Municipal Authorities in the Free State of Saxony (SMK FRL BO kGKS)" from January 11, 2023, last amended on September 22, 2023. In addition, the budgetary provisions of the Saxon Budget Code and the associated administrative regulations apply.
