DiscoverEU
The DiscoverEU program offers 18-year-old young people a unique opportunity to travel Europe and experience its cultural diversity. As part of the Erasmus+ program, it allows participants to win a travel pass for free travel and meet people from all over Europe. It promotes personal development and a stronger sense of belonging to the European Union.
Who is funded
The DiscoverEU program targets 18-year-old young people from the European Union and associated third countries of the Erasmus+ program. It enables them to travel Europe and get to know its cultural diversity. Selection is based on country quotas to ensure broad geographical coverage.
What is funded
The DiscoverEU program primarily funds travel for young adults across Europe. The focus is on enabling travel experiences that deepen understanding of European culture and diversity. Travel passes are mainly provided for train travel, with alternative modes of transport permitted in certain cases.
Type and Scope of Funding
Funding is provided in the form of travel passes, enabling selected participants to travel across Europe. The passes have a fixed value, which can be exceeded in exceptional cases, especially for travelers from remote areas. The program is designed for a maximum travel duration of one month.
Conditions and Requirements
Specific eligibility and travel conditions apply for participation in DiscoverEU. These include age and residency criteria, as well as rules for group applications. An essential condition is the use of the travel passes provided by the program and the willingness to share experiences as a DiscoverEU Ambassador. Costs for accommodation, meals, and additional insurance must be borne by the participants themselves.
Application Procedure
The application process for DiscoverEU is an online process handled through the European Youth Portal. It comprises several steps, from eligibility verification and filling in personal data to answering quiz questions. The selection decision is then communicated via email.
Legal Basis
The legal basis for the DiscoverEU program is the DiscoverEU Competition Rules Directive of September 2023, which embeds the program within the framework of Erasmus+ (2021–2027). This directive defines the eligibility criteria, application procedure, and selection mechanisms.
