Special Programme for Energy Efficiency in Businesses

Last updated: 14.6.2025
Grant

If you are a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) based in a rural area and planning an investment project to increase energy efficiency in your operations, you may be eligible for a grant under certain conditions. The Free State of Bavaria supports SMEs with investments that significantly reduce final energy consumption in buildings and technical systems, based on the Bavarian Regional Funding (BRF) and the Joint Task 'Improvement of Regional Economic Structures' (GRW).

Who is Funded

This program targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from industry, crafts, tourism, and other service sectors. It supports investment projects aimed at increasing energy efficiency, primarily intended for ERDF priority areas in Bavaria, but also possible in other Bavarian regions. The goal is to significantly reduce final energy consumption and CO2 emissions to create and secure jobs.

What is Funded

The special program promotes investments in buildings and technical systems that lead to a significant reduction in final energy consumption. This includes measures for building renovation, new construction of buildings adhering to high energy efficiency standards, and the acquisition or production of more energy-efficient technical systems and heat/cold recovery systems.

Type and Extent of Funding

Funding is provided as a grant, which is added to the regular subsidies of the Bavarian Regional Funding. The grant amount is up to an additional 5 percentage points, with maximum funding rates ranging from 10 to 45 percent of eligible costs, depending on company size and funding area. The program is limited until the end of the current ERDF funding period 2021-2027.

Conditions and Requirements

Eligible SMEs must demonstrate a significant reduction in final energy consumption, which ranges between 12.5% and 20% depending on the measure. For technical systems, a minimum saving of 15% or a recovery rate of 70% is also required. Proof of energy savings must be provided by a qualified third party. The funding is subject to the state aid regulations of regional funding.

Application Process

The application must be submitted to the responsible district government in Bavaria before the start of the measure. A corresponding form with a calculation of the planned energy savings must be submitted. After completion of the project, an "Energy Efficiency Confirmation" must be submitted as part of the proof of use, also by a qualified third party.

The special program "Energy Efficiency in Companies" is based on Bavarian regional funding and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It is integrated into the ERDF Bavaria Operational Programme 2021-2027, particularly under the objective "Promotion of energy efficiency and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions."
