Energy Research Program – Nuclear Safety Research and Radiation Research (Promotion of Young Scientists)

This funding program targets a wide range of applicants in Germany who wish to conduct research in nuclear safety and radiation research. Special attention is given to supporting collaborative projects and developing young scientists.

The program supports research in nuclear safety, radiation, and waste management research. Projects from basic research to experimental development that promise scientific progress and are practice-relevant are funded.

The program provides non-repayable grants, the amount of which depends on the type of applicant and the research area. Various funding rates and aid intensities are applied, with the European General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER) providing the framework conditions.

Specific conditions apply to funding, including the implementation of projects in research consortia, compliance with EU state aid regulations, and the obligation for science communication and research data management.

The application procedure is two-stage and begins with the submission of a project outline. After a positive evaluation, an invitation to submit a formal funding application follows. Submission is done via the electronic system "easy-Online".

The funding program is based on the guideline for the promotion of grants within the framework of the 7th Energy Research Program of the Federal Government. It is subject to the provisions of the Federal Budget Code and the EU General Block Exemption Regulation.
