The “Fit for Work – Apprenticeship Opportunity” program of the Free State of Bavaria, co-financed by the ESF+, supports training companies that train disadvantaged young people. It partially offsets the additional effort of companies to promote the entry of these young people into working life and support a successful apprenticeship completion.

Who is funded

The “Fit for Work – Apprenticeship Opportunity” program of the Free State of Bavaria is aimed at training companies in Bavaria that integrate young people with particular starting difficulties into in-company vocational training. The goal is to facilitate these disadvantaged young people's access to the labor market and lead them to a successful professional qualification.

What is funded

The funding supports in-company apprenticeships in recognized professions according to the Vocational Training Act or the Crafts Code. Specific expenses for apprenticeship remuneration are subsidized to compensate for the additional effort involved in training disadvantaged young people. The focus is on consolidating existing apprenticeship relationships.

Type and Extent of Funding

The “Fit for Work – Apprenticeship Opportunity” program grants non-repayable subsidies to training companies that train disadvantaged young people. The funding is provided as a fixed amount and is limited to a maximum period of 22 months, with a maximum funding amount of up to 5,720 Euros per apprenticeship relationship.

Conditions and Requirements

The funding is subject to specific requirements, including the existence of a valid apprenticeship contract and the apprentice's belonging to a clearly defined target group. Important conditions also concern the start of the apprenticeship and compliance with other legal frameworks. No separate accounting is required for individual funding, as expenses are lump-sum.

Application Procedure

The application procedure for “Fit for Work – Apprenticeship Opportunity” is exclusively electronic via the ESF Bavaria 2021 online system. Applicant companies submit all required documents digitally and must adhere to the deadlines for application submission after the start of the apprenticeship or the agreement of Assisted Apprenticeship. The granting authority, the Bavarian Center for Family and Social Affairs (ZBFS), advises on and decides on the applications.

The “Fit for Work – Apprenticeship Opportunity” funding is based on the funding guidelines of the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) for Bavaria 2021–2027 and is deeply rooted in European and Bavarian budgetary and administrative law. These regulations ensure the legal and transparent implementation of the program.
