Forest Environmental Measures

The "Forest Environmental Measures" funding program targets owners of forest areas and recognized forestry associations in Thuringia. The aim is to support the preservation and development of biodiversity in forest habitats, especially in NATURA 2000 areas and traditionally managed forests.

The "Forest Environmental Measures" funding program supports targeted measures aimed at preserving and developing forest areas with special nature conservation value. This includes compensating for management disadvantages in protected areas and applying traditional forest management methods.

Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant, the amount of which depends on the type of measure and the area. The annual grant is awarded as a fixed-rate financing, and the commitment runs for a period of five years.

To receive funding, certain legal and operational requirements must be met, including ownership of the areas, adherence to nature conservation standards, and, if applicable, the submission of a forest management plan. Clear rules apply to the application process and compliance with commitments.

The application procedure for "Forest Environmental Measures" is exclusively online via the PORTIA portal and is linked to the annual collective agricultural application. Approval is granted by the State Forestry Agency after reviewing the documents and verifying compliance with the requirements, whereby there is no legal entitlement to funding.

The funding program is formally established and authorized by the "Forest Environmental Measures" Funding Guideline of January 24, 2024.
