Funding for General Practitioner Care in Rural Regions

The funding program in Rhineland-Palatinate targets general practitioners and medical care centers who wish to establish themselves or open branch practices in rural and structurally weak areas. The goal is to ensure general practitioner care in these regions.

The program supports measures for the establishment, takeover, and equipment of general practitioner practices, as well as the setting up of branch practices in the defined funding areas. Both material expenditures and the employment of physicians are funded.

The program provides grants for the improvement of general practitioner care. The funding amount varies depending on the type of measure and can be up to 20,000 Euros per project. It is a fixed-sum financing without a legal entitlement.

Certain legal and operational conditions must be met for eligibility, especially regarding the start of the measure, contractual medical authorization, and maintenance of activity for a minimum period.

The application must be submitted to the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Supply in Koblenz before the start of the measure. Processing takes place upon receipt of complete applications.

The funding is based on a specific guideline of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which came into force in March 2019. This guideline sets out the framework conditions and prerequisites for the granting of funds.
