Funding for Guardianship Associations

This funding program is aimed at recognized guardianship associations based and operating in Lower Saxony. The goal is to strengthen the quality and scope of voluntary guardianship and to prevent legal guardianships by promoting advance directives.

The subject of funding is personnel and material expenses of guardianship associations for specific cross-cutting tasks. These tasks include the recruitment, introduction, training, and advising of voluntary guardians, as well as providing information and advice on advance directives and living wills.

Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant in the form of fixed-amount financing. There is an annual basic funding and additional funding linked to specific criteria such as the number of mediated guardianships, conducted consultations, or information events.

The approval of grants is at the discretion of the approving authority within the framework of available budgetary funds. Essential conditions include staffing, coordination with municipal guardianship authorities, and the utilization of other income sources.

Applications for basic funding must be submitted annually to the competent guardianship authority by September 30 of the preceding year. Different deadlines apply for additional funding, with applications to be submitted directly to the Oldenburg Higher Regional Court.

The funding program is based on the Guideline on the Granting of Subsidies for the Promotion of Guardianship Associations issued by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice and is anchored in several relevant laws and administrative regulations.
