Bavarian Research Foundation – High Technologies for the 21st Century

This funding program targets commercial enterprises, self-employed professionals, non-university research institutes, and universities with a registered office or branch in Bavaria. The funding aims to support joint research and development projects in key technologies and accelerate their implementation into new products and processes.

The program supports research and development projects in strategically important high-technology areas, from basic research to experimental development. Eligible for funding are collaborative projects that develop new technologies, processes, products, and services. Clinical studies and projects that are part of approval procedures are generally excluded.

The program awards grants of varying amounts, depending on the type of research project. Funding rates range from up to 100% for basic research to 25% for experimental development, with an own contribution expected.

Specific criteria apply for application and project implementation, such as a high degree of innovation, significant technical and economic risk, and compliance with GBER regulations. The disclosure of results and the granting of licenses under market-based conditions are mandatory.

The application for the program must be submitted in writing to the Bavarian Research Foundation. The review is carried out with the involvement of external expert reviewers; approval and processing are handled directly by the Foundation.

The legal basis of the funding program "High Technologies for the 21st Century" is based on the Bavarian Research Foundation Establishment Act, its statutes, the specific funding guidelines, and relevant budgetary and EU state aid regulations.
