Gigabit Co-financing

This funding program is aimed at local authorities and companies exclusively under public ownership in Baden-Württemberg. The goal is to support technology-neutral and future-proof gigabit expansion, especially in areas with a backlog and to utilize synergies.

The program funds expenses related to the expansion of gigabit-capable telecommunication networks in Baden-Württemberg, particularly for closing profitability gaps and realizing operator models. Planning and consulting services are excluded from funding. The funded projects aim at the implementation and expansion of digital infrastructure.

The grant is a non-repayable subsidy. The state increases the funding rate of the federal program to a total funding rate of up to 90 percent of the eligible expenses. The exact amount of state funding varies.

Specific prerequisites apply to state co-financing, including prior funding by the federal program and compliance with certain evaluation criteria. There are also clear regulations regarding notification and documentation obligations, as well as the recovery of funds.

The application for state co-financing must be submitted online via the Service-Portal Baden-Württemberg. The approval authority decides at its reasonable discretion, based on the eligible expenses determined by the federal government and additional state-specific criteria.

The basis for state co-financing is the administrative regulation of the Ministry of the Interior on the co-financing of the Federal Guideline “Funding to Support the Gigabit Expansion of Telecommunication Networks in the Federal Republic of Germany” (VwV Gigabitmitfinanzierung) of July 27, 2023.
