Hamburg Climate Fund (#moinzukunft)

The Hamburg Climate Fund #moinzukunft targets public welfare-oriented civil society initiatives and institutions based in Hamburg. The funding program supports projects dedicated to climate protection, climate adaptation, and sustainability, aiming to raise awareness of the consequences of climate change and present concrete solutions.

The Hamburg Climate Fund supports projects with a clearly demonstrated connection to climate protection, climate adaptation, or sustainability in the context of climate protection. Projects with a pedagogical, scientific, cultural, communicative, or practical approach that promote CO2 savings or climate-friendly behavior are funded. Investments and technical measures are excluded.

Funding is provided as a grant in the form of deficit financing. Projects can receive up to €20,000 per project per year, with a de minimis threshold of €1,000. A self-contribution of at least 10 percent of the eligible costs is required. The maximum project duration is 12 months; projects must be completed by August 31, 2025, at the latest.

Specific conditions apply to funding from the Hamburg Climate Fund, such as ensuring proper business management and the intended use of funds. Projects must not have started yet. There is no legal entitlement to a grant, as the decision is made by a jury, considering available budget funds.

The application for the Hamburg Climate Fund #moinzukunft is submitted via an online form to the Hamburg Climate Protection Foundation. A jury decides on the allocation of funds, with a simplified procedure possible for smaller amounts. A positive decision leads to a private-law contract between the applicant and the foundation.

The legal basis for the Hamburg Climate Fund is the funding guideline #moinzukunft, issued by the Ministry for Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture (BUKEA). Management is carried out in accordance with § 46 of the State Budget Ordinance (LHO) and the jury's rules of procedure.
