Modernization of Rental Apartments Open
The State of Hamburg supports owners and hereditary leaseholders in the modernization of rental apartments. This program comprehensively promotes energy-efficient renovations, equipment improvements, and the conversion of attics, to sustainably improve the housing stock and create new living space. The aim is to increase energy efficiency and living quality in Hamburg's rental buildings.

This funding program is aimed at owners and hereditary leaseholders of rental residential buildings in Hamburg who are planning energy-efficient modernizations, equipment improvements, or comprehensive renovations. The goal is the sustainable improvement of Hamburg's rental housing stock and the reduction of CO2 emissions.
What is funded?
Various measures for the energy-efficient and comprehensive modernization of rental apartments are funded. These include the implementation of sustainable insulation materials, ventilation systems, heating optimizations, and the use of renewable energies. Barrier-free conversions and timber constructions are also supported.
Type and Scope of Funding
Funding is provided in the form of grants, the amount and duration of which vary depending on the type and scope of the measure. Grants are paid out over six or ten years and take into account the company size and achieved energy standards.
Conditions and Requirements
Specific legal and administrative conditions apply to the funding, including the consent of the tenants, compliance with technical requirements, and ensuring overall financing. There are clear rules for cumulation with other funding and for rent price and occupancy restrictions.
Application Procedure
The application for funding must be submitted to the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank (IFB Hamburg) before the start of the measure. The subsidies are paid out in stages over the funding period after submission of the required final reports.
