Last updated: 14.6.2025

The HAUPTSACHE:MUSIK program of the State of Lower Saxony supported projects for musical education of children and young people in day-care centers and schools. It aimed to provide effective impulses for profiling and improving the quality of educational institutions in Lower Saxony and to promote participation in music culture.

Who is funded: Target Groups and Geographic Scope

The HAUPTSACHE:MUSIK funding program was aimed at community-oriented music education institutions in Lower Saxony. It supported organizations that employ qualified personnel to provide musical education for children and young people throughout the state and to strengthen their cultural participation.

What is funded: Project Types and Eligible Costs

The HAUPTSACHE:MUSIK program funded supra-regional, innovative, and institution-connecting projects for musical education for children and young people in day-care centers and schools. This included broad-based and talent promotion, as well as training measures for multipliers and cooperation projects. Personnel and material costs directly incurred for the planning and implementation of the measures were funded.

Type and Extent of Funding

The HAUPTSACHE:MUSIK program provided non-repayable grants for project funding as partial financing. The standard funding rate was 50% of the eligible expenses, up to a maximum of 15,000 EUR. Projects had a maximum duration of one calendar year, with exceptions for up to two years. A de minimis threshold of 2,500 EUR was applied.

Conditions and Requirements

To receive funding from the HAUPTSACHE:MUSIK program, applicant institutions had to be community-oriented and employ qualified music education personnel. Fee rates for personnel were limited, and projects should be completed within one calendar year. Cooperation projects were particularly welcome.

Application Procedure

The application for funding had to be submitted in writing to the Regional State Office for School and Education (RLSB) Lüneburg, supplemented by an email to the Ministry of Education. The application deadline was November 15 for projects of the following year. Eligibility for funding was decided by an expert commission, and for grants up to 15,000 EUR, a simple proof of use was sufficient.

The HAUPTSACHE:MUSIK program was based on a specific guideline from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and was subject to the general administrative regulations of the State Budget Code. These legal bases defined the purpose, subject matter, and procedure for musical education funding in Lower Saxony.
