Monument Preservation Funding (RL DFö) Open
The Free State of Saxony supports the securing, preservation, maintenance, and usability of Saxon cultural monuments. The program includes both a general state program and a special program for monuments of particular national and European significance, aiming to preserve and develop tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
Who is funded
The program is aimed at owners and users of Saxon cultural monuments, as well as non-profit organizations and legal entities dedicated to monument preservation. Funding is limited to the Free State of Saxony and aims to preserve cultural heritage.
What is funded
The program funds a wide range of measures for the securing, preservation, and usability of cultural monuments, including special investigations, further training, and archaeological measures. Primarily, monument-related additional expenses are subsidized.
Type and Extent of Funding
Monument preservation funding in Saxony is primarily provided as a non-repayable grant, with the funding amount varying between 50 and 100 percent of the eligible expenses, depending on the type and significance of the project. There is also a fixed-rate funding for smaller projects.
Conditions and Requirements
Funding is tied to compliance with monument protection permits. If available funds are exceeded, a ranking review is performed. Specific ancillary provisions regulate the grant decision and the publication obligation for EU aid.
Application Procedure
The application procedure differs between the State and Special Monument Preservation Programs. Applications for the State Program must be submitted annually by October 30, while applications for the Special Program are possible on an ongoing basis. Approval is at discretion and subject to coordination with other state offices where applicable.
Legal Basis
Funding is based on the Guideline of the Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development on Monument Preservation Funding (RL Monument Preservation Funding – RL DFö) and is anchored in Saxon budget and monument protection laws. Additionally, EU state aid regulations are relevant.
