Grant

The NRW State Program "Culture and School" promotes projects to strengthen artistic-cultural education in general and vocational schools. It enables the implementation of extracurricular activities by artists and art educators. The program offers grants to establish and support creative and cultural experiences outside the regular curriculum.

Who is Funded

The "Culture and School" program of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia is aimed at cities, districts, and sponsors of substitute schools who wish to implement projects to strengthen artistic-cultural education in general and vocational schools in NRW. The goal is to promote extracurricular activities that open up new cultural experiences for students.

What is Funded

The program funds projects that provide artistic-cultural education outside of regular lessons in NRW schools. This includes the work of artists and art educators, as well as associated material and travel expenses. The projects are intended to span an entire school year and are designed as supplementary offers that are not part of the core curriculum.

Type and Extent of Funding

Funding is provided as a grant in the form of a fixed-amount financing. Up to 80 percent of the eligible expenses can be covered, with a maximum amount specified per project. Projects are designed to last for an entire school year.

Conditions and Requirements

Specific requirements regarding project design and the qualifications of participating artists and art educators must be met for funding. Projects must be clearly defined and cover a specific duration. Cooperation projects require separate approvals, and events are covered by school insurance law.

Application Procedure

The application for the "Culture and School" program must be submitted to the responsible District Government by May 31st of the year in which the school year begins. Project selection is carried out by an independent jury based on fixed criteria such as the qualification of project leaders, the quality of project ideas, and the continuity of offers.

The "Culture and School" program is regulated by a specific guideline from the Prime Minister of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. Additionally, it is subject to the administrative regulations for the State Budget Code and a general funding guideline for cultural projects in NRW. The relevant texts are accessible in the official publications of the state.
