Last updated: 14.6.2025
Grant

The extraordinary operating cost funding from the Free State of Bavaria supports operators of competitive sports training facilities in maintaining training operations despite increased energy costs. The aim is to secure the training of young athletes in Bavaria and prevent cost-related closures of sports facilities. The program is aimed at recognized federal and state training centers.

Who is funded

The funding is aimed at operators of competitive sports training facilities in Bavaria, especially recognized federal and state training centers. The goal is to secure the training of young athletes and cushion the additional financial burden caused by increased energy costs to prevent the closure of sports facilities.

What is funded

Funding is exclusively provided for additional energy expenditures incurred in 2023 for the management of rooms and areas at recognized young competitive sports training facilities. The funding aims to secure the core operations of these facilities.

Type and Scope of Funding

The funding is provided as a project-related grant through fixed-amount financing. The grant covers 90 percent of the eligible additional expenditures, while a co-payment of 10 percent of the eligible expenditures is required. The approval period was in 2023.

Conditions and Requirements

The funding is subject to the condition that the actual operating costs in 2023 exceed the determined eligible expenditures and that the additional financial burden is due to the energy crisis. The sports facilities must continue to be available free of charge and in a state suitable for competitive sports for young athletes.

Application Procedure

Applications for the operating cost grant had to be submitted to the locally responsible government authority by August 16, 2023. After approval, disbursement occurred in tranches. A confirmation of use had to be submitted by May 31, 2024.

The funding is based on the 'Guideline on the Granting of Extraordinary Operating Cost Funding for Operators of Competitive Sports Training Facilities to Cope with the Energy Crisis,' announced by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for Sport and Integration on June 29, 2023. In addition, the general budgetary provisions of the Free State of Bavaria apply.
