Grants for Accommodation Costs for Vocational School Students Requiring Off-Site Lodging

This funding program is aimed at vocational school students residing and undergoing training in Schleswig-Holstein who are taught in state or district specialized classes. The goal is to reduce the financial burden of necessary off-site accommodation costs during block instruction, thereby making dual vocational training more attractive.

The program subsidizes expenses for necessary off-site accommodation for vocational school students during block instruction. The funding is provided as a flat-rate, non-repayable grant, with catering costs in dormitories also potentially considered part of the eligible accommodation costs.

The program grants a non-repayable, fixed-amount subsidy of up to a maximum of 350.00 Euros per calendar year for off-site accommodation. The amount of the subsidy is based on the actual costs incurred if they are below the maximum amount. The guideline is valid until the end of 2025.

To receive a grant, vocational school students must regularly attend the relevant vocational school and submit certain documents, such as the invitation to the school block and proof of training. Special regulations apply to trainees entitled to SGB II benefits. There is no legal entitlement to the funding.

Applications must be submitted in writing to the Schleswig-Holstein Institute for Vocational Education (SHIBB) before the start of the first instruction block, but no later than November 30 of the calendar year. The application must be accompanied by the required documents, such as the invitation to the school block and proof of training. The grant will be disbursed after the decision becomes final.

The funding is based on the "Guideline on the Granting of Subsidies for Accommodation Costs for Vocational School Students Requiring Necessary Off-Site Lodging" issued by the Ministry of General and Vocational Education, Science, Research and Culture of Schleswig-Holstein. This guideline defines the conditions and framework for financial support, supplemented by the administrative regulations on the State Budget Ordinance.
