The state of Schleswig-Holstein provides financial support for extracurricular sports activities through its Sports Funding Guidelines. The aim is to further develop a state-wide, diverse, and socially sustainable sports landscape, taking into account the 'Sportland Future Plan'. Funding is granted as subsidies for various sports sectors.

Who is Funded

The Sports Funding Guidelines in Schleswig-Holstein are aimed at a wide range of actors in the sports sector. These include municipal institutions, non-profit associations and federations, as well as educational institutions that wish to implement projects promoting a diverse and socially sustainable sports offering in Schleswig-Holstein.

What is Funded

The funding program supports a variety of measures and facilities in the extracurricular sports sector of Schleswig-Holstein. This includes projects in elite and disabled sports, the creation of sports (facilities) development plans and measures in public spaces, as well as projects of particular state interest.

Type and Extent of Funding

Sports funding in Schleswig-Holstein is primarily provided in the form of non-repayable grants. The funding amount can be up to 80 percent of the eligible costs, with minimum funding amounts varying depending on the type of measure. For projects supporting dual careers in competitive sports, there is a fixed amount.

Conditions and Requirements

Specific conditions must be met for funding, including full planning and secured total financing of the project. Special requirements concern the protection of sports integrity through measures against abuse and doping, as well as ensuring public visibility of the funding by 'Sportland Schleswig-Holstein'.

Application Procedure

The application for sports funding must be submitted in writing to the Ministry of Interior, Rural Areas, Housing and Sport in Kiel. Specific application deadlines apply to certain measures until June 30 of the year of implementation. Approval is granted at the discretion of the authority within the framework of available budgetary resources.

Sports funding in Schleswig-Holstein is based on the Guidelines for the Promotion of Sports in Schleswig-Holstein from September 21, 2022. These are supplemented by regulations from the State Budget Code and the State Administrative Act, which govern the allocation of funds and administrative practice.
