Funding for Contemporary Art and Culture

This funding program is aimed at natural and legal persons, as well as freelance artists, who have their residence, registered office, or main creative focus in Thuringia, or whose projects have a special connection to the Free State. The goal is to enable the free development of contemporary art and culture in Thuringia and to strengthen its diversity.

The funding program supports a variety of contemporary art and cultural projects in Thuringia, as well as scholarships for outstanding individual artistic achievements. Funding extends across the disciplines of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Music, Film, and Literature. Specific project types and cost categories are considered, while commercial or purely investment-related ventures are excluded.

Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant or a scholarship. While project grants depend on the respective project, scholarships offer fixed monthly support for a specific period. The program also considers the possibility of partial or full financing, as well as the inclusion of other funding sources.

Specific conditions apply to the application and project implementation, encompassing both legal and financial aspects. These include requirements for project start, financing planning, and compliance with aid regulations. Furthermore, the visibility of funding by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Thuringia must be ensured.

Applications for project funding and scholarships must be submitted on time using the online forms provided by the Cultural Foundation. Decisions are made by the Foundation's bodies based on the recommendation of the Board of Trustees or expert jury. After approval, proof of use must be provided.

The funding program is based on the guideline of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Thuringia for the promotion of contemporary art and culture. This guideline is embedded in higher-level state laws and EU regulations, which form the framework for the allocation of grants and aid.
