ERDF/JTF Technology Funding 2021 to 2027 – R&D Project Funding
With the ERDF/JTF Technology Funding, the Free State of Saxony offers grants for measures to strengthen the innovative capacity and competitiveness of the Saxon economy. The program specifically supports research and development (R&D) projects, technology transfer, and innovation premiums aimed at developing new or improved products and processes. Funding is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Just Transition Fund (JTF) to mitigate risks in innovation projects and intensify technology transfer.
Who is funded: Target groups and geographical reach
This funding guideline aims to strengthen the innovative capacity and competitiveness of the Saxon economy. The funding is directed at companies of various sizes, from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to large enterprises, as well as research institutions. Projects must primarily be carried out in Saxony, with specific priorities for the Just Transition Fund (JTF) in the Central German Lignite Mining District.
What is funded: Projects, areas, and costs
The funding covers research and development (R&D) projects, technology transfer, and the use of external R&D services. The focus is on innovative, technology-oriented projects for the development of new or improved products and processes. Eligible costs are clearly defined and cover a wide range, from personnel expenses to costs for technological equipment.
Type and extent of funding
Funding is provided as a grant in the form of co-financing. The funding amount varies depending on the type of project, company size, and specific project characteristics, with certain maximum limits applying. Project durations are also staggered according to the funding model.
Conditions and Requirements
To receive funding, applicants must meet specific legal, administrative, and content-related requirements. These include demonstrating marketability, adhering to cooperation rules, and observing state aid provisions such as the General Block Exemption Regulation. Special budget requirements and other provisions must also be considered.
Application Procedure: Process and Selection
The application process takes place via the SAB application portal. Applications can be submitted continuously, although competitive calls with deadlines may also be published for certain topics. The selection of projects is made at the discretion of the granting authority and within the framework of available budget funds, possibly involving a committee.
