Funding for Digital Equipment in Inter-company Vocational Training Centers (ÜBS) and Competence Centers

This funding program aims to improve the digital infrastructure of inter-company vocational training centers (ÜBS) and competence centers nationwide. It targets public legal entities and non-profit private legal entities, as well as trade and state guild associations active in the field of continuing vocational training and further education. The overarching goal is the modernization and acceleration of digitalization in the German economy, particularly to support small and medium-sized enterprises through contemporary educational offerings.

The program focuses on financially supporting investments in digital equipment and related infrastructure measures. Specific devices and facilities listed in an official equipment list are funded, primarily serving continuing vocational training and further education. The funded projects aim to bring the digital infrastructure of educational institutions up to date.

Funding is provided in the form of a non-repayable grant covering up to 90 percent of eligible expenses. Applicants must contribute a minimum of 10 percent co-financing. The minimum total expenditure for digital equipment is 30,000 Euros, and applications are approved in the order of their readiness for approval.

Certain conditions must be met for applying for and receiving funding. These include a required co-financing contribution, minimum expenditures, and ensuring the predominant use of the funded equipment for continuing vocational training and further education purposes. The utilization of the educational institution, as well as reporting and proof obligations, must also be observed to ensure the proper use of funds.

The application procedure is a single-stage process and requires written submission to the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). After an initial check of general eligibility, an expert will be engaged to assess the need and costs. Approvals are granted based on the principle of readiness for approval, ensuring quick processing.

The funding is based on the announcement for the promotion of digital equipment in inter-company vocational training centers (ÜBS) and competence centers, which is part of the BMWK's 'Digital Strategy 2025'. This announcement supplements and expands the existing 'Common Guidelines for the Promotion of Inter-company Vocational Training Centers' and is supported by further budgetary and administrative procedural provisions. The goal is to strategically support digitalization in Germany through improved educational offerings.
