Strengthening Regional Rail Freight Transport in Saxony-Anhalt

The funding program "Strengthening Regional Rail Freight Transport in Saxony-Anhalt" targets companies in Saxony-Anhalt that wish to improve rail freight transport and shift goods from road to rail through investments in private track systems. The goal is to sustainably strengthen the safety, handling, and economic efficiency of rail transport and to secure rail freight transport in the long term.

This program funds investments in private track systems and associated infrastructure to strengthen rail freight transport. This includes new construction, expansion, reactivation, and replacement of track systems, as well as special loading and unloading facilities. Planning services are also eligible for funding.

Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant. The funding amount varies between 30% and 50% of the eligible expenses, depending on the project, with the grant being at least €15,000 and a maximum of €300,000.

For successful funding, companies must ensure the full financing of the project and compliance with relevant laws, especially the Railway Regulation Act. The funded facilities must be owned by the applicant or secured by a long-term lease agreement.

The application must be submitted in writing to the Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office, observing deadlines on February 28 and August 31 of each year. Application consultation is offered, and funds are allocated according to the chronological receipt of complete applications.

The funding program "Strengthening Regional Rail Freight Transport in Saxony-Anhalt" is based on the "Guidelines on the Granting of Subsidies for the Promotion of Investments to Strengthen Regional Rail Freight Transport in Saxony-Anhalt (Railway Infrastructure Guidelines – EIRili)" of April 4, 2022. It is also based on several overarching laws and regulations.
