Funding for Social Tickets in Public Transport (Social Ticket Guidelines 2011)

The funding program “Social Ticket in Public Transport” is aimed at municipalities and special-purpose associations in North Rhine-Westphalia and aims to ensure the mobility of social welfare recipients and strengthen public transport.

The program supports the introduction and provision of social tickets in public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia through a financial contribution to cover the resulting revenue shortfalls.

The program offers grants for project funding, the amount of which depends on the number of eligible beneficiaries. It is a fixed-amount financing disbursed twice annually.

The funding is linked to the condition that a social ticket has already been introduced or will be introduced promptly, which meets certain criteria regarding its scope of validity and eligible groups of people.

The application must be submitted to the competent district government by September 15 of the previous year. The funds are disbursed in two halves in May and October of the funding year.

The funding program is based on the 'Guidelines on the Granting of Subsidies for the Promotion of Social Tickets in Public Transport North Rhine-Westphalia (Social Ticket Guidelines 2011)' and the administrative regulations for the State Budget Code.
