Grants for Multi-Peril Insurance (Multi-Peril Insurance Guidelines – RL MGV)
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia offers a subsidy for multi-peril insurance to agricultural, horticultural, and viticultural businesses. The aim is to strengthen operational risk prevention against extreme weather events such as hail, frost, storms, and heavy rain, to secure the liquidity and existence of businesses. Premiums for contracts covering at least two of these risks are subsidized.
Who is funded
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in agriculture, horticulture, and viticulture in North Rhine-Westphalia can receive funding. The program aims to strengthen self-responsible operational risk prevention and mitigate weather-related risks to secure the liquidity and existence of businesses.
What is funded
Expenses for insurance premiums for multi-peril insurance are funded, covering at least two weather-related risks (hail, frost, storm, heavy rain) and affecting cultivated areas in outdoor horticulture in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Type and Scope of Funding
Funding is provided as a grant in the form of co-financing of up to 50 percent of the annual insurance premium. A de minimis threshold of 500 euros must be observed.
Conditions and Requirements
Applicants must meet certain insurance-related requirements, such as a minimum deductible and maximum compensation. In addition, all cultivated areas of the relevant crop type in North Rhine-Westphalia must be insured against at least two weather-related risks. Cooperation with insurance companies that have framework agreements with the competent ministry is mandatory.
Application Process
The application must be submitted annually by May 15, in writing and electronically, to the Chamber of Agriculture North Rhine-Westphalia. An offer from an insurance company and consent to data transfer to the insurers are mandatory.
Legal Basis
The funding program is legitimized by the "Guidelines on the Granting of Subsidies for Multi-Peril Insurance (RL MGV)" of the Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia and is based on European and national budgetary regulations.
