Economical and Rational Energy Use and Conversion in Industry and Commerce (REN Guideline)

This funding program targets commercial enterprises, business-related liberal professions, and specialized financing and service companies in the State of Bremen. It aims to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in these sectors and to strengthen the use of renewable energies to achieve environmental and climate protection goals.

The program supports investments in energy efficiency and renewable energies, as well as the creation and accompanying of operational energy concepts. Only the additional investment costs necessary to achieve environmental protection goals are funded. Measures that are already legally required or that generate economic advantages through increased revenues or cost savings are not eligible for funding.

Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant. The amount of the grant varies depending on the type of measure and the company size. A maximum amount is set for operational energy concepts. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as investments in eligible areas can benefit from additional surcharges on the funding rate.

Funding is subject to various conditions, including compliance with an application deadline before project start, geographical restrictions to the State of Bremen, and adherence to state aid regulations. Additionally, companies must observe an earmarking period for the funded measures and meet specific requirements for energy concepts.

The application procedure requires written submission before project commencement to the Senator for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing. After approval, a proof of use must be submitted on time. The granting authority decides on the funding at its own discretion, with preference given to projects with high CO2 reduction potential.

The "REN Guideline" funding program is anchored in the Bremen Climate Protection and Energy Act, as well as relevant EU and state budgetary regulations. It also aligns with technical guidelines from the Association of German Engineers for energy concepts.
