Grant

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS), together with the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), supports research in the field of health in the world of work. The aim is to expand scientific knowledge and transfer it into practice to promote a human-centred design of the working world. The program specifically targets junior researchers, endowed professorships, and research projects in five specific fields of action, considering the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who is funded

The funding program is aimed at legal entities under private and public law, such as universities, research institutions, educational providers, as well as associations and corporations in Germany. The goal is to expand the capacity of research on health in the world of work and to generate scientific knowledge for a human-centred working world and transfer it into practice.

What is funded

Funding is provided for research projects as well as measures for establishing and expanding structural and personnel resources that contribute to securing the current and future need for work-related research expertise and sustainably strengthen the scientific system. This includes individual projects and collaborative projects in five specific fields of action, junior research groups, and endowed professorships.

Type and Extent of Funding

Funding is granted as a non-repayable subsidy, primarily as co-financing. The maximum funding period for projects is generally up to three years. Junior research groups are funded for three years, with an option to extend by up to two years. Endowed professorships receive funding for five years. The amount of funding depends on the necessary need, with endowed professorships potentially receiving up to 300,000 Euros annually.

Conditions and Requirements

Applicant institutions must demonstrate relevant expertise and submit a complete financial plan. For collaborative projects, a written cooperation agreement is required. A prohibition of cumulation with other public funding for the same purpose applies. Results must be made accessible to both the expert public and a broad audience. Participation in evaluation measures is mandatory.

Application Procedure

The application procedure is two-stage. First, an expression of interest is submitted, followed by an invitation to submit a detailed funding application for positively evaluated outlines. The selection of projects to be funded is carried out by an independent scientific advisory board and the granting authority.

Funding is based on the 'Announcement of the Funding Guideline for 'Promotion of Research and Teaching on Health in the World of Work'' dated October 6, 2022. Additionally, the provisions of the Federal Budget Code (BHO), the General Auxiliary Provisions for Project Funding (ANBest-P), and the Administrative Procedure Act (VwVfG) apply.
