Non-Profit Projects for Environmental and Nature Conservation and Education for Sustainable Development

This funding program of the City of Bremen is aimed at non-profit associations and institutions based in Bremen. It supports projects that have an active environmental, action, or educational relevance to Bremen and serve to promote environmental and nature conservation as well as education for sustainable development.

Non-profit projects, measures, and campaigns in the areas of environmental and nature conservation and education for sustainable development in Bremen are funded. This also includes specific projects for extracurricular environmental education for children and young people. Funding covers both material and personnel costs directly related to the project.

Funding is provided as a non-repayable grant, either as a percentage-based or fixed-amount financing. The project duration is limited to a maximum of 24 months. Applicants must provide a reasonable own contribution.

Funding is tied to certain conditions, including the applicant's non-profit status, headquarters in Bremen, and a clear environmental relevance to the urban area. Projects must not commence before funding approval and must be carried out economically and sparingly.

The application must be submitted to the respective competent authority before the start of the measure: either to the Senator for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing or to Bremer Umwelt Beratung e.V., depending on the funding area. The application review is carried out carefully, followed by a decision by the specialist deputation or the allocation committee.

The basis of the funding program is the "Guideline for the Promotion of Non-Profit Projects on 'Environmental and Nature Conservation' and 'Education for Sustainable Development'" of September 10, 2015, which came into force on January 1, 2016. Additionally, the Bremen Administrative Procedure Act and the State Budgetary Ordinance apply.
