Who is Funded

The KfW Venture Tech Growth Financing program targets young, innovative, and fast-growing technology companies. The funding aims to strengthen their growth, especially in the capital-intensive scaling phase, and is provided in cooperation with professional, private lenders or venture debt providers. Eligible companies must have their headquarters in the EU and operate a branch in Germany.

What is Funded

The program finances projects that serve the establishment or expansion of the company, scale business models, or implement growth-promoting measures. This includes a variety of activities, from financing operational business to acquisitions or costs related to an IPO. However, certain expenses and companies are excluded from funding.

Type and Extent of Funding

Funding is provided as financing with flexible structures and conditions, in cooperation with private lenders. KfW's participation amount can range between EUR 0.5 million and EUR 125 million, with a target risk sharing of 50:50 between KfW and the private lender.

Conditions and Requirements

Specific legal, administrative, and operational conditions must be met for the application and implementation of the funding. These include requirements for the composition of the consortium, compliance with state aid regulations, and the environmental and social compatibility of the projects.

Application Process

The application process for Venture Tech Growth Financing does not occur directly with KfW but through private lenders or venture debt providers. These submit the request to KfW, which then decides on participation.

The KfW Venture Tech Growth Financing (VTGF) funding program is based on KfW's fact sheet from January 2024 and is part of the German Federal Government's Future Fund. It is subject to EU state aid regulations, as well as environmental and social legal requirements and KfW Banking Group's exclusion list.
