Municipal Flood Protection

The funding program supports municipal administrative bodies in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in improving flood protection. The aim is to finance projects that serve risk minimization and the equipping of water brigades.

A variety of measures to strengthen municipal flood protection are funded, including procurements for mobile flood protection and the equipping of water brigades, the creation of concepts and planning services, as well as construction measures. Replacement of facilities and plant parts as part of normal wear and tear or mere maintenance is not eligible for funding.

The program provides non-repayable grants as project funding with co-financing. The funding amount can be up to 80 percent of the eligible expenses. There are minimum limits for eligible expenses depending on the type of measure.

Specific conditions must be met for the granting of funding, particularly regarding the integration of the project into overarching flood protection strategies, obtaining statements from the water authority, and proof from the municipality for the implementation and operation of facilities. Minimum financial requirements must also be observed.

The application procedure requires written submission to the Landesverwaltungsamt Sachsen-Anhalt by March 31st of each year. After submission, the approving authority prioritizes the projects before deciding on the grant.

The funding program is based on a specific guideline from the state of Saxony-Anhalt and is legitimized and regulated by further legal bases from EU law and the State Budget Ordinance of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
